Project PCOS Receives The HON code Seal an accreditation

On April 13, 2007 The Project PCOS website received HONcode accreditation. The HON code is provided by The Health on the Net Foundation, a leading organization promoting and guiding the deployment of useful and reliable online medical and health information, and its appropriate and efficient use.

To be approved, a website has to meet several criteria and agree to follow the principles of HON. The HON code staff reviews a site to insure all criteria are being complied with. www.projectpcos.org has complied with these criteria and therefore has received the designation of being HON Code health trust worthy.

Each request for accreditation is examined by a member of the HON code review team. HON makes a thorough visit of the site and verifies that all eight of the HONcode ethical principles are respected. The site is accredited by HON when the site not only complies with the HON code principles but also demonstrates how each principle is implemented. As the result of the HON code accreditation the site which is found to respect the eight HON code principles is given a unique 'active seal' to place on their pages.

Project PCOS is thrilled to announce we are now part of the over 3,600 websites accredited by HON as a reliable health resource on the internet.

The Project PCOS Team has and will continue to work to ensure the PCOS Community receives the most accurate, up to date and informative information possible and we thank you for supporting us!

Project PCOS is thrilled to introduce our April PCOS Spotlight Angela Lawlor

The author of “PCOS: Fighting Back”, Angela Kay Dotson (now Mrs. Lawlor), currently lives in Pennsylvania with her husband Jay, adopted son Nathaniel (now 5 years old), and pet cat Simon. Diagnosed with PCOS in 1987, and frustrated by the lack of patient information on the subject of pcos, she began work on the first book edition in 1998. Since the 2nd edition published in 2002, Angela resolved to post her e-mail address on her website and be available to support others. She continues to answer mail today, trying to encourage those who seem overwhelmed - especially after a new diagnosis has been made. After marrying in 2002 and trying unsuccessfully to conceive, the Lawlors adopted their son Nathaniel, a four-year-old boy from China, in May 2006. Mommy, Daddy and Nathaniel are all incredibly happy and blessed that they found each other.

Update on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Shahab S. Minassian, M.D. Director, Drexel Fertility Division of Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology Co-Director, Center for PCOS at Drexel University College of Medicine

The changes are gradual but no less frustrating. Weight gain, excessive hair growth, acne and a steadily worsening irregularity of menstrual periods begin to surface. Fertility, once thought to be a natural process, is impaired. After its formal reports in the medical literature and for decades in modern times, the diagnosis, treatment and health risks of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) have afflicted patients and perplexed their physicians. However recent advances in the knowledge of this common syndrome, especially in the area of insulin resistance, have helped everyone involved to better understand the problems PCOS causes and turn to newer, more effective treatments to combat them. It is hoped that this will serve as an overview to our readers and offer them hope that was not available until recently.
